1. This year we have enjoyed freedom in America for 250 years. It is appropriate that we thank God for our freedom! It is proper that we commit ourselves to preserving our liberty so that freedom will always ring from sea to shining sea.
  2. I read an uncensored newspaper, I go to church to study the Bible and worship, I can speak openly. These are just a few of the freedoms we enjoy in America.
  3. We in the United States are blessed in many ways. Our greatest blessing is freedom. It is easy to take freedom for granted and forget how fortunate we are.  Millions of people across this globe don’t even begin to enjoy the freedom which we have in America.
    1. Our Declaration of Independence reads ” All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” Our Constitution tells us that the reason for establishing the United States was to “Secure the blessing of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.” Lincoln said at Gettysburg, our nation was “conceived in liberty.”
    2. Because freedom and liberty are important to us, we have many symbols of that freedom. We sing songs like “My country ’tis of Thee, Sweet land of liberty.” We have a Liberty Bell. We have a Statue of Liberty. Freedom is a priority for us. We want to be FREE! We want to stay FREE.
    3. Our Freedom and liberty are important to God. We discover in Holy Scripture that the LORD our God is a God of freedom. In the Old Testament, the people of Israel were oppressed slaves in Egypt.  God sent Moses to liberate the people and set them free.
    4. In the New Testament we are sinners enslaved, captive to the power of sin. Because humanity is in bondage to sin God sent Christ to pay the high price of redemption. He came to set us free. God is a God of Freedom, and our forefathers knew that. Our forefathers created a land of liberty.
    5. Never forget the great gift of Freedom has a great cost. On July 4, 1776, our country declared its independence and liberty and then paid a high price to secure it. Our forefathers experienced suffering, blood, sweat, tears, and agony at places like Lexington, Bunker Hill, Georgetown, Yorktown, and Valley Forge.  But that was just the beginning.  We have continued to pay the price throughout our history.  We must always be willing to pay the price.
    6. Remember our spiritual freedom came as God became flesh, so He could have His body broken, and have His blood poured out for our sin.
  4. Remember that freedom is worth the price of a deep and abiding commitment to pay with time, talents, and treasures!! It is worth cooperating with God to pray, work, worship, vote, pay taxes, and conserve the precepts and principles of a God given freedom.
    1. Political freedom is precious and God does want us to have liberty. It brings such ecstasy we need to be grateful for it every day. With God’s help let us be committed to paying the price to keep it.
    2. So, we have political freedom but are we free indeed? Many people in America are still in bondage that is worse than political bondage. They are in Spiritual bondage. Like the Jews that Jesus addressed in John 8:31-36, there are those in the grip of fear of death. Many in America consider it important to be free and yet they are slaves to sin! They are in bondage to guilt, fear, pride, misplaced priorities, greed, idols and lack of spiritual focus! The Jews called themselves sons of Abraham, but they were in bondage to Satan, and they were his sons! So, it is with many who called themselves free Americans. How can they call themselves free when they were not free to serve the LORD! No one is free until they can live for Jesus openly! No one is free until they trust the TRUTH! No one is free and still in the bondage of corruption! No one is free until they are free from prejudices, mistakes, false notions, free from the dominion of hate, lust and passion!
  5. It is surprising to me that so many in this country of freedom and liberty would allow themselves to still be in this kind of bondage when they could be set FREE INDEED by repenting of their sin and receiving Jesus as their savior and LORD.
  6. You might say that then I would be a slave of Jesus, and this is true, but His yoke is light, and you will be freer under the Lordship of Jesus than you ever could be under the rule of sin, self, and Satan!

Let Freedom Ring song by Bill and Gloria Gaither

Deep within the heart has always known that there was freedom
Somehow breathed into the very soul of life
The prisoner, the powerless, the slave have always known it
There’s something that keeps reaching for the sky

And even life begins because a baby fights for freedom
And songs we love to sing have freedom’s theme
Some have walked through fire and flood to find a place of freedom
And some faced hell itself for freedom’s dream

Let freedom ring wherever minds know what it means to be in chains
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
We can be free, and we can sing, let freedom ring

God built freedom into every fiber of creation
And He meant for us to all be free and whole (free and whole)
But when my Lord bought freedom with the blood of His redemption
His cross stamped pardon on my very soul

I’ll sing it out with every breath, I’ll let the whole world hear it
This Hallelujah anthem of the free
That iron bars and heavy chains can never hold us captive
The Son has made us free and free indeed

Let freedom ring down through the ages from a hill called Calvary
Let freedom ring wherever hearts know pain (hearts know pain)
Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free, and you can sing, let freedom ring

Let freedom echo through the lonely streets where prisons have no key
You can be free, and you can sing, let freedom ring
You can be free, and you can sing, let freedom ring
Let freedom ring
